Drummer CD Exchange
Many of us are passionate about certain drummers. Steve H started this site based on Dave & Vinnie. For me it was Porcaro. Who was it for you?

I'm proposing the idea of a drummer CD exchange. Make a CD of your favorite drummer(s) including a spectrum of performances and make them available for trade.

After reading many posts I have become aware I have little on drummers like Jim Keltner, Harvey Mason, Jo Jones, Peter Erskine, Louie Bellson, Joe Morello, etc. I would like to build my library with many great drummers. A compilation CD would be a great start.

Anybody interested?

This could also be done with musical styles like Neo Soul. If it weren't for HOD, I would not have caught this style.

Thanks PT, I've been thinking about this for sometime and the quality of members in HOD are the best for this type of exchange.

Here's how I think it should get started, drummers should link themselves with a particular drummer(s) by posting the drummer you?d be willing to associate with;

Thus, if someone wanted a compilation CD with stuff that you most likely do not have (skip Lido Shuffle, Rosanna, etc) or if you want obvious stuff, request it, privately PM or
E-mail that member for a CD.
The Porcaro CD I have takes Jeff back to his first or early sessions right up to one of his last before he passed. It covers all his classic grooves (8th note snakey "FM" type feel, 16th note "Keep Forgettin'" feel, shuffles, etc). Hense, you will get a good representation of Jeff here.

One would have to be willing to forget the 1:1 exchange or trade. You might think there will be many looking for one drummer, but I'd be surprised if you had to burn more than five or so CD's for various members. It costs about $0.60 to send each CD in the US...big deal. Not much more for overseas.

It would be great to get CD's in the mail specifically of drummers you don't have a lot of.

With this Neo SOul thread going on, I realized I have almost nothing with Gene Lake, Michael White, Adam Deitch, etc. I also have little on some classic drummers like Lenny White, Joe Morello, Papa Jo, Louie Bellson, Gene Krupa, Ed Thigpen, etc.

This is a great idea! I do not post often, actually this is only my second post. I mostly read for news and info on drumming and some of my favorite drummers. I would not at all be opposed to burning some cds and spreading the word on some great talent. A truly great way to expand everyone's listening horizons.

Hey Guys-

Excellent idea! A few songs which best represent

that player's style to you. Perhaps, and maybe

this was implicit, but even including drummers who

are not well known, but that really inspired you.

For example, people that we know in our everyday

lives who inspired us or encouraged us. Perhaps a

teacher with a particularly innovative technique

or a stock lick that really turned the light on

for you? Or, how about this: Do a CD with a

few tracks from a particular album that a person

would like to buy, but is wondering about quality?

For example, I would really have liked to hear a

few tracks from that Big Drum album before I

bought it! Ah nevermind that part...Anyway,

sounds like a great idea.
